The Creation of the EMPOWER

Posted: April 29th, 2011 in E.M.P.O.W.E.R. Newsletter

The April 2011 issue marks the beginning of The Empower Newsletter, created by empowered women. The purpose of this newsletter is to provide other women who have been, or are, victimized or criminalized with education and support.  The publications are an opportunity, for women and young women, to share experiences, both successes and set backs, to provide education, to create awareness, and as an avenue in which their voices can be heard throughout the community. As women we will come together to educate ourselves, and others on the needs and circumstances of women who have been victimized and criminalized. We will share our stories of strength and courage, our pain and struggles. We will use our experiences to create awareness and to show that there is hope and change is possible.

It is our hope that we will encourage other women to access programs and services available that address the needs of women and young women that have been victimized or criminalized. In the Sudbury community The Elizabeth Fry Society, Empower Program offers Educational Groups that provide women, ages twelve and up, with not only the means of obtaining information but with opportunities to improve their self-efficacy and economic prosperity. This newsletter as well as the Empower Program is a means to help women realize their potential and assist them in obtaining and sustaining healthy lifestyles.
